A pair of Celestion Ditton 33s, for a decent price too. They won’t be replacing his current main front speakers, SPL 4000 monitors, but they do sound excellent and will be used for something. He’s been watching for a pair of Ditton 66s, and these will hopefully tide him over until he can find what he really wants. He used to have 4 66s in the early 80s, sold them a long time ago and has regretted doing so since then.

Here’s one of the rather massive SPLs

The 33s do go well with the Ditton 15s he has in the back

I really don’t need to, but all his speaker searching has me poking around Craigslist for something better than my Infinity Kappa 7.1 Series 1 towers, but they were free, so it’s hard to justify spending $600 on Kappa 8s or PSB Stratus Golds, as much as I want both of them, I don’t know if either will sound $600 better than my 7.1s.

strangely enough, audiositelock can either mean for audio, or for audi.

Still have a pair of Jamo (Danish) speakers that I got in ‘97 when I graduated from school. They still sound great - I can hear it very clearly when the Jets are losing.

So I’ll see if I still know this - piano is a Yamaha? Could be a Kawai ...

I went Craigslist hunting a few months ago for speakers, I found a pair of Yamaha towers for $50 so I agreed to meet in a BK lot. Since there was no was to test them I asked to take the grill off. The woofers were completely dry-rotted, I said no thanks, he realized how bad they were and offered them for free. I ordered 4 8" woofers for $80 and have some loud towers. They’re by no means audiophile but it’s my first pair of towers.

http://www.diysoundgroup.com/ Build your own monsters! Or check out PiSpeakers.com (I’m running a set of 4Pis with 3pi flanking Subs)......but these are the monsters: http://www.diysoundgroup.com/home-theater-speakers/1899.html

Holy crap those Pi speakers are large. I don’t have nearly enough room to do those justice. The big horn ones at least. I’m not quite ambitious enough to build my own speakers, I trust audio engineers much more than I trust myself at speakers

At DIYSoundGroup.com they are kits the engineering is done you just have to put them together. At pispeakers you can email the owner and ask for the plans then build them yourself, that’s the route I went. But check out the Volts on DIYsoundGroup.com for the size the volt-10s will blow you away.

Here’s the Pi Speakers i built:*

The Piano is a Farrand actually, built in Holland, Michigan sometime in the 1900s. My parents got it for free years ago. A disturbing number of old pianos are given away, or just junked. The keys were originally ivory, but were beyond saving, so they replaced them with plastic ones.

Beautiful looking SPL units. I just found out about Celestion Ditton this summer, got some simple mint condition 121's at a garage sale for next to nothing. Went great with my basic Marantz 2230. Not a powerful system, but sounds nice and works perfectly for my volume levels. My dad had huge vintage Tannoys when I was young, but I don’t blast music like we did back then.

Wow - could not have been more far off. No piano now, but when I played over 30+ years had a Yamaha console, and Steinway K (upright) and a Yamaha C3 conservatory grand.

I can’t play, but my mom has her whole life, she’s even a piano teacher. I’ve always told myself I’d learn eventually, but who knows

He got the SPLs for $60 at a used furniture store....fairly solid deal. I tend to listen decently loud, so I can’t imagine having less than towers for my main system

Ask her to give you Hanon, to stretch out your fingers. Then ask her about the Frances Clarke method, or whatever method she prefers.
